Defend Faith Based Adoption

For too long the radical left has forced people of faith to ignore their principles. Remember the Oregon cake shop owner who was vilified for standing up for her beliefs? In places like Illinois, Massachusetts, and Washington, DC, some Christian adoption agencies are told to stop providing care for orphans because they place children in families consistent with their sincere religious beliefs.

That’s why I passed legislation to protect faith-based adoption agencies in Alabama to forbid the state government from discriminating against adoption agencies based on their religious convictions. This fight is about defending religious liberties and protecting Alabama’s most vulnerable children.

As Governor of Alabama I will always protect our faith-based organizations, working with them instead of against them.

Faith-based initiatives promote volunteerism and philanthropy in an incredible way. And because of the faith of Alabamians, and their confidence in God, Alabama is consistently listed among the most generous states in the nation. If we don’t encourage generosity the government tries to take control, which damages the fabric of our communities.

Additionally, as Governor, I will pass policies to encourage and make it easier for couples to adopt children in Alabama.

Easy adoption and plentiful foster-care resources are critical to Alabama; both for the children and the families. I will work to make sure those children are safe, not exploited, and that our state resources will be focused appropriately.
